This is an original watercolor painting. The story is below:
These are the Kramers. A hardworking family located in Amersfoort. He was a baker and she worked odd jobs as often as she could. They produced a full family of young girls, who were expert cobblers and diligent in their work.
The family ancestors hailed from the hard earth and farming in Friesland - Dokkum specifically. They had long known the poverty and unrelenting hours of manual labor. Theirs was not a family of overt physical affection; but love was expressed and certainly felt.
Some 20 kilometers away in the town of Utrecht was a family of boys that seemed perfectly matched for the Kramer girls.
The two families gathered as frequently as time and a hard days work would allow. The gatherings were always an opportunity for stolen kisses amongst the tulips or long discussions about shared futures whilst walking along the canals.
In time, the most ardent and besotted couples would wed, youthful hope and unabashed courage propelling them to the land of citrus and ocean breezes on the west coast of America.
In spite of the departure of youth, here amongst the stone houses and the ever-turning windmills remain the well-spring of the Kramer’s family tree. Built on firm foundations lovingly planted in the damp and loamy soil, they abide the turning of the years.
Many generations have passed since young lovers walked these paths and dreamed of lives in the land of milk and honey. Yet, the ancient matriarch and patriarch remain amongst the carpet of colorful tulips; their shared love kindled by a century’s long practice of prioritizing the well-being and happiness of the other.
As in any good relationship they are perfect complements to each other in both form and function. Together, and perhaps only together, they continue to provide fertile space for a fulfilling life.
